Anonymous Threaten the Destruction of Facebook

Hacktivist group Anonymous, which has been responsible for cyber-attacks on the Pentagon, News Corp, and others, has vowed to destroy Facebook on November 5th (which should ring a bell).

Citing privacy concerns and the difficulty involved in deleting a Facebook account, Anonymous hopes to “kill Facebook,” the “medium of communication [we] all so dearly adore.

This threat represents an interesting challenge for the Information Security team at FB; can they be able to withhold a planned attack while still offering services? It will be interesting to see the results.

Furthermore, the main reason to justify the attack is flawed, everything we put online is there to stay, no one has any control on the information they upload on the Internet.

There is a level of inherited trust that allow all of us to share information online.

Finally, what should we, as a society do in these cases? Is this a modernized version of Robin Hood? The 2010/2011 remake of “V for Vendetta” (they play with the masks, don’t they?)
